IFA LEVEL 4 AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE DIPLOMA
Our Practitioner's Diploma in Aromatherapy Massage training takes the form of two modules:
- Aromatherapy Massage
- Business Studies for Complementary Therapists
The course lasts for one academic year, and all our lessons are done face to face in class (we don't believe that you can possibly learn a practical technique via distance learning). We anticipate that home study will take up approximately 430 hours (NB: this does not include study for the A&P course).
Learning Aromatherapy Massage on our Practitioner Diploma training course is designed to be flexible enough to fit around modern life with weekend teaching dates.
We run our Level 4 Diploma course at a venue near Eastwood, Nottinghamshire and you will also have a tutor that is available for support and advice throughout the week, for the duration of the course.
On our Aromatherapy course, you will learn to:
- Safely make therapeutic blends using 60 individual essential oils and 30 fixed/carrier oils
- Deliver an Aromatherapy full body massage treatment lasting for 1 hour and 15 minutes
- Understand the benefits and contraindications to Aromatherapy Massage, including the hazards and toxicity of essential oils
- Understand the chemistry of both aromatic and carrier/vegetable oils
- Understand the history and origins of Aromatherapy Massage
- Understand how the oils are absorbed by the body and how the sense of smell works
- Appreciate how aromatic plants are cultivated, how essential oils are extracted and how they can subsequently be adulterated
- Understand the pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and therapeutic properties of both essential oils and carrier oils
- Understand the botany and botanical origins of aromatic plants, including their botanical Latin species and family names
- Understand the latest research into the effectiveness of both Aromatherapy and Massage
- How to apply essential oils using methods other than massage
- Undertake 60 case study treatments
- Undertake homework in your own time - including assignments, case studies (as above), a Research Project based on existing clinical research, ie you do not need to conduct your own research trial, a Business Plan and a Reflective Journal. Estimated home study time is 430 hours over the academic year
- Learn how to set up and run a successful business.
Entry requirements for the course:
- Be over 18 years at the start of training
- Have an adequate level of written and spoken English
- Have the academic ability to work to above A Level standards
- Have sufficient physical ability to perform massage techniques
- Have IFA Student Membership within four weeks of starting the course (we will organise this for you)
- All coursework is submitted by e-mail, so you need to be able to use a word processing program and know how to attach files to an e-mail. If you don't know how to do either of these, attending a basic computer course at your local college prior to starting our course would be highly recomended.
- Be prepared to commit approximately 430 hours of home study over the course of the academic year.
There is no 'academic' requirement for entry onto this course. However, the course is intensive, so we do ask for hard work and determination.
This next statement may seem obvious, but please be aware that students on this course will be expected to perform full body massage and also receive full body massage as part of their training.
Anatomy & Physiology is required learning as part of this course. If you already have an A&P qualification (see below for details of which qualifications are accepted), we don't expect you to have to study all over again. However, if you haven't already got a Diploma in A&P, then you may wish to enrol on the Essential Training Solutions Level 3 A&P course (link below).
